After an Allyson Smith show, you’ll typically find her on the comedy club floor, with a line of eager fans queued up to talk with her, to confess to her or to share some comically grisly detail from their own lives. That intimacy, that uncommon bond between audience and performer is at the heart of Allyson’s magic as a comedian. Like the most relatable actresses working today or your very best friend, she finds a way to connect with everyone in a room, be they from southeast Asia, the U.K. or North America. In fact, no matter where she went, the verdict came back unanimous: this girl was hilarious and she absolutely owned the stage.

Over time, Allyson has refined her decidedly rare style of comedy, one in which her girl-next-door demeanor plays in contrast to material that’s entirely unafraid to go to awkward, adult or challenging places. But even at it’s most biting, Smith’s comedy is a tent big enough for everyone in her audience, no matter their age, sex or preferred level of alcohol consumption. In fact, it’s the rare Smith fan that doesn’t leave her show with some small sense of déjà vu, like they’ve known her for years.

So don't miss this opportunity to meet your new best friend.

    The Women in Comedy Festival

    Comedy

Described as one of ‘the UK's best comedy festivals’ by the Skinny, Greater Manchester’s Women In Comedy Festival is Europes only comedy festival dedicated to gender equality.

A ‘brilliant, brilliant festival’, full to the brim with female comedic talent. ‘Get it booked, get on down’ is the recommendation from City Life.

The Women In Comedy Festival, produced by Dulcet Sounds, takes place annually in Greater Manchester, UK during October.

‘Set up as a reaction to the sidelining of women comics by club owners back in the day, Manchester’s homegrown Women In Comedy Festival (set up by Hazel O’Keefe) has found its feet in a very short space of time - attracting the likes of actress Maxine Peake as a patron, joining Jo Enright and Isy Suttie.’ M.E.N

Building on the success of Laughing Cows Comedy Night, the Festival launched in 2013 as a volunteer-led festival presenting both established and up and coming talent across the spectrum of stand up comedy, comedy theatre, improv performing arts, film, spoken work, comedy writing and visual arts.

The fifth annual 2017 Women In Comedy Festival will take place from Thursday 19th until Sunday 29th October 2017

Actor Maxine Peake joined the team of festival patrons last year. “I’m proud to be supporting the UK Women in Comedy Festival as a patron. A festival filled with laughter combined with feminist principles taking place in the North … what’s not to support!”

The festival has grown steadily over the years since the first event in 2013 and encompasses solo shows, open mic events, a comedy writing competition showcases, galas, symposiums, networking events, training, panels, debates and workshops. The Women In Comedy Festival also offers training and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals and other leading creative organisations.

‘It’s a very positive event, attracting massive headline acts.’ (Manchester Evening News)
