Come along and hear your favourite festive R’n’B, Rock n’ Roll and Blues songs, all performed by a host of fantastic local singers, backed by an amazing house band.
This year’s featured vocalists include Mike Kearney (The Katet), Nicole Smit (Nicole and the Back-Up Crew, Smitten, Cow Cow Boogie) and Jed Potts (Jed Potts & the Hillman Hunters, Swampfog) with more to be announced.
Support comes from Toby Mottershead.
Inspired by the old-time blues, roots, ragtime and gospel of the pre-war era. Toby Mottershead earned his spurs playing with the award winning eight piece band The Black Diamond Express. His solo show on The Roots of The Blues is an exceptional gem of The Edinburgh International Festival - showcasing his obsession with artists such as Blind Willie McTell, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell and many more.
“His superb exhibition of early blues styles is a joy to behold.” ** Broadway Baby
“Toby Mottershead is the real deal.” Thomas Truax
“Impressing audiences with his passionate performances - this is definitely one to watch.” Thomas Compton - Edinburgh Guide
“He may just be a “grown-up skinny white boy in the wrong country singing the blues,” as he puts it, but Toby Mottershead, singer with the popular Edinburgh roots band Black Diamond Express, can sing naked blues with rough-grained eloquence.”
