New Roots presents Brooke Sharkey (The Guardian ‘Top 50 Independent Artists In The World’ List).

What places her on a higher plane than most of her contemporaries is [the] sheer strength of her songwriting, and the truly soul shifting quality of her voice… This is mature, refined songwriting of the highest calibre.’  The Observer

London based singer-songwriter Brooke Sharkey was raised between France and England- since returning to the UK she has released two Eps and two full length albums; ‘One Dress’ (2012) and ‘Wandering Heart’ (V2 Records- 2016). In November 2016 she was featured in the The Guardian’s ‘Top 50 Independent Artists In The World’.

With a vocal style that switches effortlessly between lithely melodic and fiery, set against a deeply atmospheric musical backdrop, comparisons with the likes of Kate Bush, Ane Brun and Cat Power are inevitable.  She has captured the attention of national media, headlined London’s iconic venues The Union Chapel, Bush Hall, and The Jazz Café, and has played support to Thomas Dybdahl, Ben Watt and French artist Tété.

Producing her music in collaboration with band members based in and around East London, her unique sound has been described as ‘..adorned with emotional vocals and sliding string sections that create a tense air of melancholy that few others can master so simply and so elegantly. Brooke Sharkey oozes a creativity that radiates emotion. She is a woman who bleeds artistry’ (Fresh beats)

‘..an incredible voice, amazing control and grace’ Time Out London

She’s sure to stop you in your tracks..so beautiful’ Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC 6 Music
