North Yorkshire alt hip-hop luminaries Ceiling Demons celebrate the launch of their inspired new LP Nil, with a very special guest in the form of multi award-winning, triple poetry slam champ, 21 year old poet and playwright Tommy Sissons.
Nil explores the light and dark in themes of nature and an all-or-nothing view of existence. Conflicting emotions are delivered through introspective wordplay that gets cast like occultist spells over soundscapes that move from the hauntingly raw to the beautifully sparse. Marching through the ups and downs, the dreams and nightmares, it is a record that searches the void to find it masked by opposites, where all can be found in nothing.
Tommy Sissons, despite his relatively tender years, brings deft lyricism and a characteristically smart, original and challenging performance style has in a few short years seen him catapulated to international performances and plaudits. Commissions from the likes of 1Xtra, Channel 4 and Red Bull, numerous poetry slam titles (including one judged by none other than Kate Tempest) and awards make him an artist truly in the ascendance.
This is a night not to be missed for fans of spoken word, hip-hop and the more experimental musical wanderings of our discarded youth.
'As emotional as their subject matter may be, addressing mental health and the loss of close friends, there’s still something inherently rapturous permeating everything they do'
'Amazingly heartfelt & powerful'
