Somewhere in London a musician carries the keys to the musical kingdom. In his Technicolor sonic scope are all kinds of sounds, from rock to country to soul to pop. Nothing is off limits, as long as it has a groove and goodness based in reality. The musician has been performing for 40 years, but is as fresh today as the first time he stepped on stage. There are no tricks or short cuts here. Far from it. His songs are as solid as the earth, yet carry no lingering hype or heaviness. The musician is Nick Lowe, the headmaster of British rock.

Fifteen top forty singles and five top ten albums in the UK, one top ten and three top forty hits in the US, a number one album in Australia, and extensive radio play across mainland Europe that have combined to generate millions of sales worldwide.
Del Amitri are one of the UK's most prolific and loved bands of our era. -
Dana Gillespie has been singing professionally since 1965 when she made her first record, and she just recorded her 73rd album. ‘Live’ at the Temple of Art and Music, with her musicians The London Blues Band. Apart from being the original Mary Magdalene in the London production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1972, she has performed in quite a few musicals and films, and in 1972 David Bowie wrote a song for her called ‘Andy Warhol’ and he sings on her version of it, but she also sang on the Ziggy Stardust album. She played at the famous SXSW festival this Spring with her band and has just finished making an album with Marc Almond, which will make it her 74th album!

For so many years a keystone of the bands of Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, Dave Edmunds and countless more, Geraint Watkins is also a revered creator of his own sublime music.Attempting to designate a musical category for Watkins is not without its challenges. The perspicacious Nick Lowe once observed that he could be filed as “the missing link between Paulo Conte and Howlin' Wolf”, while another beacon of taste - Bob Dylan – proclaimed himself a fan by playing two solo cuts on his Theme Time Radio Hour saying (without a hint of irony) that “Geraint Watkins is my favourite English piano player.”Aide-mémoire is a forty-one track two CD set which draws attention to a wondrous selection of material from albums in a solo career that has only rarely been glimpsed between Watkins’ distinguished work for other artists. Most of these songs are examples of his own compositions - shaped by a broad and impeccable taste in music - with the bonus of a small clutch of fabulous renderings of some classic titles, incomparably re-modelled by the same pair of hands.

Roseanne Reid's long-awaited second album 'Lawside' out 2nd June, overflows with mature and confident song craft and delivery, from the infectious, horn-laden opening single 'Call It Love' to beautiful, tender pieces such as 'All I Need,' 'Shine On' and 'Made Just For You.' It's a worthy follow-up to her gorgeous first album 'Trails.' We're so happy to welcome Roseanne to Folk In The Park after she tours the UK in June with one of her great admirers, Steve Earle.

Hannah Scott performs contemporary folk music and is building a loyal following thanks to her distinctive voice, powerful melodies and thought-provoking lyrics which leave a lasting impression on her audiences. She draws much of the inspiration for her music from her affinity with Italy. A year living and working on an olive press in rural Tuscany in her late teens provided the backdrop to her early work, and the draw of the country and its influence have not faded with time.
Following her well-received 2021 album “Drawn To Darkness”, Hannah has released “Ancient Lights”, an EP which is, as the title suggests, a collection of older songs she felt deserved to be dusted down and played to an audience once more. Two close family bereavements in the space of a year, as well as the period of quiet that the pandemic brought, set Hannah on a path of reflection as she rediscovered some of her oldest material. Ancient Lights takes its name from the house she grew up in, a Tudor building in Suffolk, named by her father because of its leaded light windows. These take centre stage in the artwork created by her mother. Hannah had the idea to name a record after the family home in her early twenties but she knew she’d have to wait until she was older to have some old songs to record so the title would make sense!
The EP is not only about looking back, however. The record also marks a step forward in Hannah’s career as an artist: these are the first songs she has in part engineered herself, recording her piano, guitar and vocal parts at home during the summer of 2022. Her long-standing collaborator Stefano Della Casa has subsequently added his cello parts and his own creative touch during the mixing process. Together they have brought these songs and the earliest part of Hannah’s musical story back to life.
Recent highlights for Hannah include being selected to participate in the highly competitive Artist Mentoring Programme run by English Folk Expo and opening for folk superstar Seth Lakeman. On taking the stage, the first thing he did was thank Hannah for her performance and her “wonderful songwriting”. She has also been awarded FATEA Magazine’s Female Artist of the Year 2022.
Her music has been heard in the hit TV series, Grey’s Anatomy, and has been played regularly on the BBC with releases supported by Dermot O’Leary and Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 and Tom Robinson on 6 Music. She’s also been featured by MOJO, The Guardian and Clash Magazine. Her arresting live performances have earned her support slots for artists including Madeleine Peyroux, 10cc and Paddy Casey and she has twice travelled to New York festival Mondo NYC.

British-born musician Matt Owens is 3 albums down into his solo career (and in the throes of currently recording his 4th,) having first come to prominence as a founder member of indie-folk band Noah and the Whale.
Whilst for the last 5 years establishing his solo credentials through relentless touring, Matt has also been in high in demand as a songwriter, producer and session player working with amongst many others Thea Gilmore, Robert Vincent, Hannah White, Elles Bailey and The Korgis.
Noah and the Whale achieved huge success in the UK and overseas with four their albums, selling over one million albums in the UK alone. The band toured the world between 2006 and 2014, playing hundreds of festivals as well as touring with the likes of Arcade Fire, Bahamas, and Laura Marling.
It was back in February 2019 that Matt’s debut solo album, "Whiskey and Orchids" was released to widespread critical acclaim including a 5-star review in Maverick Magazine. Nigel Stonier produced the album which featured Tom Waits' drummer Michael Blair, Thea Gilmore, and Carleigh Aikins from Bahamas. The album received substantial radio play and that summer he played over 25 festivals as far flung as the West Coast of Ireland and Northern Scotland, including Glastonbury.
2020 saw the release of Matt's 2nd album Scorched Earth, to a fanfare of acclaim from the music press. Many BBC Radio Shows made it their album of the week, Bob Harris included “Cargo for the Road” on his first “Best of Under the Apple Tree” compilation and the album went on to feature in many Americana album of the year polls. 2020 also saw Matt co-write including Elles Bailey’s smash hit “Sunshine City” which was Planet Rock’s Number 1 song for 8 weeks.
In Autumn 2022 Matt released “Beer For The Horses,” cut live with his 7 all-star band: The Delusional Vanity Project at Middle Farm Studios. Co-Produced with Robert Vincent, the band also features members of The Leylines, Clemencie, Danny and the Champs, Tree Top Flyers, and Little Mammoths. The collection of songs is his most accessible and rocking to date and received rave reviews from Americana UK and heavy rotation from Radio with his lead single “Go Easy on Yourself,” “Numbered Days,” and the title track. His 4th album is slated to be out later this year, which seems Matt join forces with his movable feast of an All-Star Band- The Delusional Vanity Project.

Winner of the prestigious ‘Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award, 2022’ With an irresistibly joyful, retro sound that’s rooted in 70s soul, via Nashville and the North of England, Sheffield’s Lauren Housley is the ‘Girl From the North’.
Along with her band, the Northern Cowboys, Lauren has been delighting audiences on both sides of the pond since she released her first album Sweet Surrender in 2015. She quickly garnered acclaim from fans, critics and fellow musicians. Her single Ghost Town Blues was playlisted by BBC Radio 2, where fans included Bob Harris OBE, whilst The Waiting Game, became Robert Elms’ track of the year on his BBC London show (‘Absolutely monumental’).
Lauren’s love of music started early: ‘It was like magic to me, that music could have such an impact on the way I felt. It became my therapy. Being a deeply empathetic person led me to channel my emotions into poems and songs, with a hope that they would bring some comfort, joy and understanding to people.’
Lauren independently released her second album The Beauty of This Life in 2017, to rave press reviews from Q, Uncut ‘Her voice is potent and the emotional directness of her songs is estimable’ and RNR Magazine ‘Lauren Housley’s blend of material is both thrilling and tender, propelled by a voice that stirs and soothes’. Music journalist and broadcaster Paul Sexton said: ‘What I love about Lauren’s voice, and the music she makes with her stellar band, is that she brings such pure, spontaneous soulfulness to everything she touches. Both on record and on stage, she’s the real deal.’ -
There’s a purity about IAIN MATTHEWS’ voice. And it’s mirrored by the integrity of his career. The singer-songwriter has never been seduced by fame. His focus has always been on creating music that captivates the ear, the mind and the heart.
Born Ian Matthews McDonald, June 16, 1946, in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England, he soared to prominence in 1967, as a founding member of Fairport Convention. In that pioneering band, Matthews created exquisite harmonies with first Judy Dyble, then Sandy Denny. After two years, he left and formed Matthews Southern Comfort. They enjoyed a huge hit with their stirring version of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock.” One of the outstanding solo albums Matthews recorded during his years in Los Angeles was 1973’s “Valley Hi,” produced by Michael Nesmith. Matthews has fronted such bands as Plainsong, Hi-Fi, No Grey Faith, More Than a Song and a Dutch jazz combo, The Searing Quartet.
After working for a while in A&R, in 1987 Matthews returned to performing and recording as a solo artist. Since returning to live in Europe in 2000, Matthews focuses mostly again on his now all Dutch ensemble, Matthews Southern Comfort and his seemingly never ending stream of solo recordings. Matthews latest album, released in 2021 and titled “ Distant Chatter” is a duo effort, with Dutch songwriter and multi instrumentalist B J Baartmans.
