This is Funny Women's 5th year of running the Funny Women Awards and once again they are on the road across the UK and Ireland to find the newest and best female comedy talent.

We are very proud to be putting this heat on in partnership with Funny Women and The Women in Comedy Festival, Manchester.

Funny Women have some incredible alumni including Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Bridget Christie, Susan Calman, Katherine Ryan, Sara Pascoe, Jayde Adams, Desiree Burch and last year’s winner, Harriet Braine, who is already making a name for herself.

Our much sought-after Stage Award focuses on a series of live heats where each act performs five minutes of comedy in front of an audience.  You could follow in their footsteps by taking part or come along and support the next brilliant crop of female performers and watch them take their first steps towards comedy glory.

Register here if you want to take part or book now to be in the audience.

We are delighted to announce that registration for the 2017 Funny Women Awards is now officially open!

Those of you who wish to enter our 2017 Stage Award must register by the 30th September 2017 in order to compete in our heats which will run throughout October and November. Regional finals will take place in the new year with the final held in March 2018

Our new Awards producer Kate Lennon says: “When I was a comedian the Funny Women Awards were the pinnacle of my comedy aspirations. Now that I am actually running the Awards, I feel a great sense of pride and achievement that I am helping other talented women realise their dream.”

Funny Women editor and Comedy Shorts Category creator Kate Stone says: “We are so proud of the Funny Women Awards and every year we discover more fantastic new comic talent across the categories. It’s a great privilege to see so many Funny Women Awards alumni, such as Katherine Ryan, Andi Osho, Sara Pascoe et al, go on to excel in the comedy world.”

Founder and creator of the Funny Women Awards Lynne Parker says: “Every year I think that the Awards can’t get any better and they continue to surpass my expectations. With so many women now actively working in comedy – performing, writing, directing and producing – we’re changing perceptions about women in ways that I never could imagined when I first launched the Awards in 2003.

“I am confident that we will continue to grow and particularly excited about working with Hazel O’Keefe and the Women in Comedy Festival in October.  Hazel and I share a huge passion for great female comedy and where better to showcase this than at this unique festival.

Described as one of ‘the UK's best comedy festivals’ by the Skinny, Greater Manchester’s Women In Comedy Festival is Europes only comedy festival dedicated to gender equality.

A ‘brilliant, brilliant festival’, full to the brim with female comedic talent. ‘Get it booked, get on down’ is the recommendation from City Life.

The Women In Comedy Festival, produced by Dulcet Sounds, takes place annually in Greater Manchester, UK during October.

‘Set up as a reaction to the sidelining of women comics by club owners back in the day, Manchester’s homegrown Women In Comedy Festival (set up by Hazel O’Keefe) has found its feet in a very short space of time - attracting the likes of actress Maxine Peake as a patron, joining Jo Enright and Isy Suttie.’ M.E.N

Building on the success of Laughing Cows Comedy Night, the Festival launched in 2013 as a volunteer-led festival presenting both established and up and coming talent across the spectrum of stand up comedy, comedy theatre, improv performing arts, film, spoken work, comedy writing and visual arts.

The fifth annual 2017 Women In Comedy Festival will take place from Thursday 19th until Sunday 29th October 2017

Actor Maxine Peake joined the team of festival patrons last year. “I’m proud to be supporting the UK Women in Comedy Festival as a patron. A festival filled with laughter combined with feminist principles taking place in the North … what’s not to support!”

The festival has grown steadily over the years since the first event in 2013 and encompasses solo shows, open mic events, a comedy writing competition showcases, galas, symposiums, networking events, training, panels, debates and workshops. The Women In Comedy Festival also offers training and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals and other leading creative organisations.

‘It’s a very positive event, attracting massive headline acts.’ (Manchester Evening News)
