George Duke was a man of many talents. As a keyboardist, composer, singer and producer, he garnered a reputation as one of the most respected musicians involved in the music scene from the 1970s until his death in 2013. His output was prolific - he released over thirty albums throughout his career, of which the 1980 release A Brazilian Love Affairbecame the most popular. His work has many musicians over the years, with artists as diverse as Madlib and Daft Punk sampling his releases.
Vels Trio will present their reimagining of some of Duke’s best loved works. The experimental group fuses jazz, rock, hip hop and funk without sounding like any of the above. Their homage will capture the essence of Duke’s music, while giving their own unique take on the music of this visionary.
