Project Smok

"Project Smok is a trio which comprises of multi award-winning musicians Ali Levack (Pipes & Whistles), Pablo Lafuente (Guitar) and Ewan Baird (Bodhrán). Already fast becoming a recognised and household name in the Traditional Music Scene, Project Smok brings together an array of musical aspects; immense instrumental virtuosity, blistering drive, infectious rhythm, delicate sensitivity…

What distinguishes Project Smok from the norm is their ability to meld naturally between music which is innovative, explosive and at times unconventional, to more traditional, time-honoured and West-Coast rooted styles.

The idea of Project Smok was originally the brainchild of Pablo and Ali, after performing as a duo at ‘Folklub’, Glasgow in 2017. It was after this gig that they chose to record with Scott Wood at Oakridge Studios, where they produced their debut record, ‘Horizons’.

As well as their own input into recording, it also features the masterful Bodhrán playing of Martin O’ Neill.

‘Horizons’ was launched at Celtic Connections 2018 and is available for purchase/download via the Project Smok website, iTunes and Bandcamp.

In Winter 2018, Project Smok welcomed the arrival of Ewan Baird on Bodhrán, affirming the bands new line-up from duo to trio. With three brand new singles due for release this December, a nomination for ‘Best Up and Coming Artist’ at this year’s Scots Trad Awards and a second album planned for Summer next year, Project Smok are set to continue their fierce impact on the Traditional Music Scene and rise as a force of musical excellence."

Cuig

This Irish five piece band, with members from Armagh and Tyrone, are tearing up the rule book with their bold approach to their native musical tradition. Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, ‘New Landscapes’, Cúig were awarded “Best New Irish Band 2016” by the Irish American News.

Recorded in late 2015 with sound engineer Sean Og Graham of Beoga and produced by award winning multi-instrumentalist Jarlath Henderson, ‘New Landscapes’ represents the realisation of a two year musical journey. Comprising of ten instrumental tracks featuring a range of self-compositions, traditional Irish, Scottish and world music accompanied by fiery, rock-infused accompaniment, Cúig’s debut album is unique and has established them as one of the most prominent bands on the Irish Traditional Music scene today.

Since then, they have added vocals to their performances creating a dynamic and powerful live show which has left audiences on their feet in Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Luxembourg and most recently the USA creating great demand and acclaim for Cúig.

Not only have they achieved success as a band, individually these multi-talented musicians can lay claim to several All Ireland titles.
