Howard Riley (piano)
Barry Guy (double bass)
Lucas Niggli (drums)
The working association of Howard Riley with Barry Guy started back in the 1960s. It may be relatively little known, but is of vast significance. Riley and Guy have been involved for many years in a deep exploration of the piano trio and how it can be redefined. “Reinventing the piano trio” was how Duncan Hei- ning described this process in an in-depth article about Riley.
Riley and Guy worked together consistently, and led their innovatory evolu- tion jointly and from the front, but they always knew they wanted to work with different drummers. Riley and Guy have also played together in other groups, such as the London Jazz Composers Orchestra. Indeed Riley even wrote several compositions for the LJCO. For their Vortex concert the huge energy and vitali- ty of Swiss drummer Lucas Niggli will be powering the Howard Riley Trio – a very exciting prospect!

We hope you will show your support by taking out a membership, coming to gigs or donating. You can make a donation by clicking the “donate” tab. We also have some new fundraising T-shirts with a fab design that was commissioned by Tim Berne (Snake Oil) with graphics by Steve Byramn.
