The Gig Cartel Proudly Presents
HUGH CORNWELL with very special guests EXTC

  • Hugh Cornwell

    Hugh Cornwell

    New Wave

Golden Brown, Strange Little Girl, Always The Sun, Peaches, No More Heroes, Nice & Sleazy...Sound familiar ? All big hits, all great songs, all written and sung by Hugh Cornwell, the songwriter behind The Stranglers.

When future historians of music draw up a list of the movers and shakers who changed the modern musical landscape, there will be no doubt that Hugh Cornwell’s name will be prominent amongst them. As a pioneering musician, songwriter, and performer his pervasive influence persists in the record collections of music aficionados, across this spinning globe’s radio waves, and on stages around the world. Hugh’s presence is unquestionable.

As leader of The Stranglers, Hugh was the main songwriter of all the band’s most memorable songs across ten stellar albums. After their 1977 debut Rattus Norvegicus, follow up albums No More Heroes, Black and White, The Raven and The Gospel According to The MenInBlack consolidated Cornwell’s stature as a unique songwriter and musician. His lyrics to Golden Brown, from the La Folie album, and their multiple meanings, is a songwriting masterclass.

Fast forward to 2022 and Hugh's latest studio album Moments of Madness is an album of acute, pithy, and witty observations which has received widespread critical acclaim.

Mojo - "Cornwell's still doing things his way and often with striking results" 4/4 star review

Uncut - "Thunderously tribal garage rock...the ex- Strangler not yet gone soft"

Vive Le Rock - "a hugely enjoyable journey through the thoughts and musings of one of the most mercurial minds working in modern music”

Louder Than War - "A late flowering classic from a man that has always known how to write a good tune"

‘All the Fun of the Fair Double Live album released October 18th’

    EXTC

    Indie Rock

For almost four decades, XTC fans could only dream of witnessing the sensational XTC classic songbook played live.

That dream has now become a reality. XTC’s legendary drummer, Terry Chambers, is back on the road with his band eXTC (named and approved by XTC frontman, Andy Partridge).

Emerging out of the post-punk and new-wave explosion of the late 70s. XTC experienced global success, touring with the likes of The Police and Talking Heads. Sadly, their legions of loyal fans would be left in limbo, when in 1982 XTC stopped touring, becoming a studiobased entity. Now, forty years on, those loyal fans can once again experience all the XTC classics performed live to audiences across the globe.

eXTC– XTCs Terry Chambers and friends take you on a journey through time as they work their way through the XTC back catalogue including the hits, Senses Working Overtime, Making Plans for Nigel, Sgt Rock, Life Begins at the Hop, Dear God, Mayor of Simpleton, and many more!

eXTC–XTCs Terry Chambers and Friends capture all the raw energy and hype of XTC’s heyday, with their sensational energetic live performances.

eXTC honors the legacy of XTC’s past, as it shapes its own future, with new material already in the works.

Alongside Terry, eXTC features frontman Steve Hampton (lead vocal & guitar – Joe Jackson, The Vapors and Dead Crow Road) and Terry Lines (bass & vocals – The Rams and Dead Crow Road).
