Long-time Vortex favourite, pianist Ian Shaw, returns to the club with his solo show sizzling with wit and dazzling with new songs from his new album “Shine Sister Shine”, a celebration of women songwriters with songs from Peggy Lee through to Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Rickie Lee Jones and Tanita Tikaram. Shaw is one of the most distinctive, original and creative jazz singers that the UK has produced, as well as being a talented pianist, songwriter, presenter and record producer. Twice voted “Best Jazz Vocalist” at the prestigious BBC Jazz Awards, his recorded output includes three US releases and he regularly performs in Canada and the Far East as well as the Continent. He can be heard weekly on Jazz FM presenting the Ronnie Scott’s Radio Show which is also syndicated worldwide. This consummate showman is much in demand for performances with his regular piano trio and as a featured soloist with big bands and orchestras both in the UK and abroad, alongside his powerhouse one-man-shows where his razor-sharp comedy and skills as a raconteur particularly shine.
“the redoubtable Ian Shaw … a consummate interpreter” Evening Standard

VORTEX FUNDRAISING T-SHIRTS:
March 2 2018 two iconic musicians and old friends Dave Holland and Evan Parker joined forces in a fundraiser to show, as well as give their support to the Vortex Jazz Club – a fine institution that has help many a musician at the start of their career. The club has existed without any core funding after its establishment by founder David Mossman over twenty-five years ago. The club needs financial help to keep its operations going. We hope you will show your support by taking out a membership, coming to gigs or donating. You can make a donation by clicking the “donate” tab. We also have some new fundraising T-shirts with a fab design that was commissioned by Tim Berne (Snake Oil) with graphics by Steve Byram.
