Eliza & The Bear are back with a revitalised sound, fresh new single ‘Real Friends’ and second full length album to be released later in 2018.
It’s been a tumultuous couple of years for the London-based outfit. Tipped for success on their emergence in 2013/14 by many corners of the music press, the band initially raised a few eyebrows amongst fans when no “Eliza” was to be found in the band’s line-up. They later confirmed the name was in fact taken from a collection of poems by Eleanor Rees that had inspired them.
A sold-out UK arena tour with Paramore followed, along with main stage appearances at the Reading & Leeds Festivals, Boardmasters, V Festival and Zane Lowe making ‘It Gets Cold’ his ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on his BBC Radio 1 show. The eponymous debut album reached The Official UK Top 40 in 2016.
However, the band’s sound then began to evolve and move on from the sound that got them signed to Capitol Records. After the album’s release and chart-placing, they found themselves at a creative crossroads. “We decided to take the bull by the horns and use a period of uncertainty to our absolute advantage”, comments vocalist and guitarist James Kellegher. With song placements on national adverts from Bulmers and Burberry, the band’s infectious hooks remained in demand throughout this time.
Off the back of a sold-out March UK tour including London’s O2 Islington Academy, Eliza & the Bear are now back with a vengeance. A fresh new sound, a busy festival season and a brand new record label – the band has recently signed with Be-Known Music.
