“Can’t overstate the impact Tomorrow’s Warriors has had on the current music scene in London” – Gilles Peterson
It’s no hyperbole to say that the UK jazz scene as we know it today would not exist were it not for Tomorrow’s Warriors.
Founded and led by Janine Irons MBE and bassist Gary Crosby OBE, this tiny music charity has been responsible for nurturing aspiring jazz musicians since 1991. Their mission: to improve diversity and equality in the arts through a pioneering development programme that champions young jazz musicians from the African diaspora, girls and those whose financial circumstances might otherwise lock them out of a career in music.
The Tomorrow’s Warriors alumni reads like a who’s who of the UK jazz scene, with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings and Sons of Kemet, Nubya Garcia and Nérija, Binker & Moses, Femi Koleoso and Ezra Collective, Soweto Kinch, Eska, Nathaniel Facey and Empirical, Zara McFarlane, Denys Baptiste, Jason Yarde, Byron Wallen and more all passing through its doors.
For this special celebration of the Warriors movement, Tomorrow’s Warriors returns to its birthplace at the Jazz Cafe to raise funds to keep their £FREE Artist Development Programme running in 2019. Five generations of Tomorrow’s Warriors come together to premiere new commissions specially-created by alumni for the next generation of Warriors followed by an electrifying, multi-generational Warriors reunion jam. Expect FYAAAH!
There will be an optional £2 donation per ticket for the Tomorrow’s Warriors charity fund.
