Born in the streets of Brooklyn, New York and raised in Brownsville, Killah Priest brings his openly secular hip-hop influences to the UK.
Killah Priest, known for his legendary work with the Wu-Tang Clan and Sunz of Man, is finally touring the UK for his long awaited “Heavy Mental” tour. “Heavy Mental” was his first album released after deciding on a solo career in 1998. The release itself was groundbreaking, selling nearly 350,000 copies. The success of this album paved the way for Killah Priest.
You’ve probably seen some people rocking Wu-Tang Clan merchandise (that black and gold bat/eagle looking logo) and most likely have heard of the album “Wu-Tang Forever”. Wu-Tang Clan has been hailed as one of the most influential american rap groups in 2004 by NME. Comprising of nine individual members, Wu-Tang Clan is notorious for their musical melodies and controversial lyrics rapped by various members of the group. Due to both their group and individual work, the influential rap collective has earned them the title of “No.1 greatest Hip-hop group of all Time”. The group has worked with big artists such as Busta Rhymes, Def Squad’s Redman, Mobb Deep, and Kanye West. Wu-Tang Clan has been described as a global phenomenon and are still relevant to this day and age, inspiring other famous hip-hop artists like Tyler the Creator and Kanye West.
Joining his UK tour is Sheffield’s very own alternative hip-hop artist Otis Mensah, an up and coming young story-teller and poet. His music is described as soft and embodying a new form and fusion of jazz and hip-hop. His lyrics decrypting the everyday hardships of life on top of a soft, hazy, and melancholy soundtrack.
Archspace is giving you this once in a lifetime chance to see Wu-Tang Clan’s Killah Priest live. A night to throw it back to Killah Priest’s 1998 solo album, “Heavy Mental” in Archspace’s intimate location. Don’t miss it out!
