Performing shows in staple Newcastle venues such as O2 Academy, The Cluny and Think Tank has seen Luke grow into a major name across the local music scene in the North East.
Back in 2019 Luke released his self-titled debut EP, he describes the making of these tracks as “purely a remedy for going through a rough spot.” He then goes on to explain how his first EP was based on an indie sound that he’d grown up with in the noughties, however, he has since developed his style and personalised the sound he is generating.
The new Luke Porter EP ‘The Truth Lies behind has been wrote, produced and mostly played by Luke himself. He travelled around the North East, using several different studios to record the instrumental tracks. The EP includes the already released folk-inspired single ‘You Don’t See In Me What I See In You’ as well as Libertines-esque indie track ‘Future’s Still A Dream’. The EP also includes studio tracks ‘In Everything There’s You’ and ‘I’ll Let The Day Pass Through’ as well as bonus live track ‘It’s Not Fair To Live In Fear’ (CD version only).
When discussing the themes of the EP Luke explains that the songs all follow a similar dialogue of looking forward and forgetting the past, there’s hope for good things to come. These themes are most obvious within the track ‘Future’s Still A Dream’ where Luke himself described the ideas behind this track: “It’s fairly self-explanatory after you’ve read the title, the future still holds hope and dreams, no matter what has come before. The track explores my emotions from the negative
things that were happening at that time, looking forward and realising there’s positives to come and then, quite frankly, telling those putting me down to f*** off. There’s always hope.”
