Me for Queen aka Mary Erskine is inspired by people and their stories.  Growing up feral in rural Fife/Scotland in a big old house near the sea, she started writing songs when she was 13, around the same time that she started dressing herself.

Years of classical training together with a Blues guitarist for a father make for an interesting mix of Soul and Folk. Me For Queen’s piano-based songs draw obvious comparisons to Regina Spektor and Carol King but manage to fuse hints of Kate Bush and Laura J Martin. Mary cites Judee Sill & This is the Kit as a few of her favourites and says Me For Queen is “a sort of sketchpad for whatever’s happening in my head. I just try to write songs that talk to people.”

Her much-anticipated forthcoming album, “Loose End” will be her first full-length offering as a solo artist. Teaming up with Jim Wallis at Bella Union Studios, this record sees her explore a more varied sonic landscape, moving away from her piano-led sound into richly orchestrated arrangements, blending a live full-band sound with a contemporary edge.

Mary says, “Buying Logic (music software) in 2016 changed my life! It’s had a huge impact on this record as I’ve been able to make demos at home and build up an idea-board for each song before stepping into the studio.

This album is the product of me moving away from London for a spell to clear my head and see what’s left at the end! I’m immensely proud of these songs and of our little team that came together to create the album in the studio. The single, Loose End, was the last song I wrote, having thought the album was finished… It pretty much sums up my approach this last year where I’ve tried to carve out some space to let my mind noodle, removing as many demands on my time in order to see what that could make room for. Sometimes the not-knowing, the unscheduled, un-routined is where the good stuff lives.”

Her last single, Jessica enjoyed radio play across the UK, including BBC6music, BBC Scotland and BBC Wales. It was also featured on Spotify UK’s most listened-to playlist, “The Most Beautiful Songs in the World”.

2017 saw her play two headline UK tours, including sold-out shows at London’s Paper Dress Vintage and the Sound Lounge. She started 2018 with a Celtic Connections show supporting Chris Wood and is set to tour Germany in May, before a UK tour in September.
