The Canny Band
The Canny Band are a rare fusion of piano, diatonic button accordion and bodhran who were recipients of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music ‘Up and coming’ award in 2021 which led to a busy summer touring festivals around Scotland and England. Having several awards under their belt already they have now become stalwarts of Glasgow’s fertile music scene who cook up an effervescent mix of trad-based material with borrowings from classical, jazz and beyond.
The Canny Band are not to be missed!

The Sarachs
The Sarachs are a new iteration of much loved Campbeltown band The Wild Sarachs, champions of the infamous Kintyre genre of “turbo-dreich” music.

At the heart of the band is the wonderful voice of Anne Leith and her metronomic guitar style, which provides the heartbeat for the songs. Les Oman doubles on guitar and bouzouki, where he plays in the spaces left by Anne and also chips in on harmony vocals from time to time. At the bottom end of the songs, Alex Johnson’s unique double bass sound transforms every song he touches, and he is also no slouch on the harmony vocals.

The Sarachs current focus and set for this concert is based on the songs of Kintyre, both old and new.

Lorne MacDougall
Lorne MacDougall is one of Scotland’s leading innovative traditional musicians performing on a range of bagpipes and whistles. Recent times have seen him achieve an MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards Instrumentalist of the Year Nomination and previously placed 3 times in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Final. He has an Honours Degree in Scottish Music specialising in Bagpipes.

He is known for seamlessly integrating his sounds into soundtracks with highlighted credits ranging from movies like Disney Pixar’s Brave, DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon series and one of the mass bagpipers who recorded for the 2021 movie Dune for Hans Zimmer to television shows like Doctor Who and Thunderbirds Are Go.

Ciaran Mulholland
MC Ciaran Mulholland has been coming over from Northern Ireland to play fiddle and sing as a solo artist and with Ceólta.  This year as MC we’ll get a few stories from him as well.
