“...far and away the standout talent, balancing forward thrust with laid-back cool.” NPR

“Britain’s next biggest jazz star.” Rhythm Passport

Nubya Garcia is an award-winning saxophonist and composer based in London. Her debut EP, NUBYA’s 5IVE, released in 2017, was hailed as “exceptional” by The Vinyl Factory and her second project, WHEN WE ARE (2018), earned her critical acclaim, the title track of which was named one of NPR’s Best Songs of 2018. In 2018, Garcia also featured on five on the nine tracks on WE OUT HERE, the Brownswood compilation project celebrating London’s young and exciting jazz scene. She won the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year Award and the Sky Arts Breakthrough Act of the Year Award in 2018, and the Jazz FM UK Jazz Act of the Year Award in 2019.

Born and raised in north London, Garcia began her music education at Camden Music, before joining Tomorrow’s Warriors in her late teens, and completing her training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music. She went on to perform in small gigs and impromptu jazz sessions around London, her audience growing organically, and eventually began headlining her own shows. Garcia also performs as a member of a number of group projects. She collectively founded septet NÉRIJA, later joining MAISHA, a sextet fronted by Jake Long, and the THEON CROSS TRIO. Since 2018, Garcia has been touring internationally, playing in venues across Europe, Australia, India, and the United States. She also has a burgeoning reputation as a DJ, with a hit radio residency on NTS, and a growing number of live sets played across Europe.

Electric Brixton Covid Policy (Please read)

Electric Brixton will proudly reopen on July 23rd at full capacity.

The safety of our music fans, artists and employees will always be our top priority. Let’s all work together to ensure lockdown rules do not come back.

The government has asked us to encourage the use of Covid Passports at Electric Brixton but it is not a legal requirement. We will not be asking you to prove that you have been vaccinated, had Covid in the past or a proof of a negative test. If you feel unwell, please do not attend the venue and put others at risk. We also recommend you test on a regular basis.

Masks
While masks are no longer required, if you wish to wear a mask inside the venue you can.
We will require all masks to be removed upon entering the venue so that ID checks and any security searches can take place. All our employees will be wearing masks.

Temperature Checks
We will continue to temperature check everyone coming into the venue.

Sanitising
Everyone will be required to sanitise their hands upon entering our venue. This helps us keep things safe.
Additional sanitising stations will be located in the toilet areas or by asking any of our employees who will have additional sanitiser behind all service areas and security points.

Venue Cleaning
On top of our enhanced cleaning procedures, we have also implemented Nordic Chem a Antimicrobial spray coating which is a monthly procedure. Nordic Chem coating is a mechanical kill that creates a very thin layer of “nano-spikes” that penetrate the virus/bacteria that comes in contact with the coating and thus killing it.

Social Distancing
The venue will no longer be enforcing social distancing but we understand the venue can get busy so we will be creating additional areas (at the front of the venue) for those who smoke or need some fresh air.

Medic Assistance
Our medic is on duty at all events . If you become unwell during your time with us please head to the medic room located on the ground floor and they will assist you. We also have a substantial quantity of Lateral Flow Tests at the venue so if the medic has any concerns with your well- being they will offer you the opportunity to take a test.

Employees of Venue
Our employees will be asked to take two lateral flow tests a week prior to starting work.

Air Quality
The venue is blessed with extremely affective fresh air ventilations that is circulating at all times around the whole of the venue.

Payments & Cloakroom
We strongly encourage you to use contactless/cards if you can, to limit cash transactions. We will be asking all promoters to provide a card payment facility at the box office so that cash handling is minimal. Our cloakrooms are also now taking card payments so again this will limit cash transactions. Please bring minimal items so that we can space out customers items as much as possible.

We look forward to seeing you all back at Electric Brixton.
