OLD BABY MACKEREL play furiously fast, knee-slapping bluegrass, mixing skilful musicianship, five-part harmonies and raucous, over-the-top hillbilly antics that make you “yee-haw” harder than a nine pound hammer. Good old fashioned songs about whisky, murder, and railroads played at 500 BPM with harmonies that make the Beach Boys sound like Eric Cartman.

The project is a coming together of highly respected UK musicians from bands such as Flats and Sharps, Ushti Baba and Gin Bowlers with a classic Bluegrass lineup of banjo, guitar, bass, fiddle and mandolin.

In 2018 Old Baby Mackerel headlined The Northern Ireland 27th Annual Bluegrass and Appalachian Music Festival, the amazing Chai Wallahs stage at Shambala Festival, Acoustic Summer in Germany, Port Eliot, Nozstock Festival, Bimble Bandada and Broadstairs Folk Week amongst others.

This year they are playing Willisau Bluegrass festival (Switzerland), Pflasterspektakel (Austria), Mandrea Festival (Italy), The Cornish Bluegrass Festival as well as other European festivals and gigs. They have just returned from a tour in Asia where they played mainstage at Jai Thep festival as well as various venues across Thailand and are currently in the studio with UK banjo maestro, Leon Hunt recording an album.
