Introducing a new voice of a generation, Sean McGowan’s debut album Son Of A Smith is released on 11th May on Xtra Mile Recordings. A spirited record born of frustration yet under McGowan’s whip smart lyrics and razor cut vocals lies a tenderness aching with gutsy hope. Themes of work and stress, drinking and failing, incredible friendships, shaking our heads at society’s apathy are conveyed in pacey punk infused songs that shine with McGowan’s strong-willed grit and confidence. First single Off the Rails hurtles forward with Sean giving the lyrical equivalent of an arm around the shoulder to his mates for being there for him.
Growing with strong working-class friendships informed Sean’s morals, politics and work ethic. Born and bred in Southampton, with deep family ties to London’s Shepherd’s Bush area and coming from an Irish family his voice is one of authentic young working class Britain. Whether in the lyrics of his songs or the aspirations he holds McGowan could end up soundtracking our social conscience well into next year.
Prior to this release Sean McGowan toured his EP Graft & Grief playing to sold out venues and also supported Billy Bragg on his 2017 UK tour. Currently on tour with Will Varley in the UK throughout January & February and into Europe in April. He then supports label mates Skinny Lister in Germany in May before a summer of headline shows and UK and European festivals.
