The genesis ofthe band was the friendship and songwriting partnership of Wagner Biro and Bailey. Wagner Biro had been a supporting player in multiple bands [Wild Yawp, The Significant Looks, Blaze Pascal, Pink Enigma] and was looking to step out into the front as a singer/songwriter, while Bailey had been the leader of Brooklyn-based punk pop band The Sharp Shadowsand longed to stretch out stylistically. The two found a common bond in the devil-may-care rock n’ roll of turn-of-the-millenium brit-rockers the Libertines and the wistful California pop of HAIM and decided to join forces by forming a band that might implausibly mix the two.
A few years, lineups, and several Pretenders and Pat Benetar records later, they completed the lineup of the band with the inclusion of bassist Land and drummer Holodak, both recent transplants from the West Coast. Land –a reformed Metalhead and a fan of all things gothy and mysterious –was a serendipitous Craigslist find having recently moved to NYC from San Francisco, while Holodak (recently from Seattle) was met by chance during BandNada’s annual Band Lotto event. The quartet’s noticeably muscular musical attack and stylistic versatility saw them quickly gain momentum in Brooklyn’s celebrated DIY rock scene, becoming regular attractions at venues such as TV Eye, The Sultan Room, Main Drag, and the Broadway along such scene luminaries as The Royal They, A Very Special Episode, Wifey, and Onesie.
Sorry Daring released its first collection of songs, ‘See This Through’in February of 2024. A high-energy collection packed to the brim with future classics, the EP was positively received by local NY press including the NY Deli, Look at My Records, and a Grrls 2 Sound Cents. A second EPreleased that July centered around a high-energy cover of Lucinda William’s ‘Passionate Kisses.’ The band followed this up with regional touring of New England and the Mid-Atlantic.
Rolling into 2025 sees the band’s momentum continue, with the release of ‘Sorry Darling’ a vinyl collection of all of their existing material to date, including non-album singles ‘Made Room for Silence’ and ‘Loved Well’. The band is also set to make its first appearance overseas with a7-date tour of the UK including a slot on the lineup of the 2025 Loud Women Festivalin London.
