Although he was active as a composer, Andy Razaf was best known as a lyricist collaborating with Fats Waller, Eubie Blake, J. C. Johnson, James P. Johnson, Paul Denniker and Joe Garland.

His most notable songs were “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Ain't Misbehavin” and “Stompin' at the Savoy,” but he wrote over 800 others, primarily during the 1920s-30s.

Among the songs that bore his special touch were “Memories of You,” “In the Mood,” “Black and Blue,” “Christopher Columbus,” “Ain’t Cha Glad’ ‘Gee Baby Ain’t I Good to You,” “Blue Turning Gray Over You,” and dirty blues such as ‘My Handyman’ and ‘If I can’t Sell it, I’ll keep Sitting on it.’

Suzanne Noble accompanied by pianist George Webster spotlights the music of Andy Razaf featuring his well known and not-so-well-known compositions. Along the way, Suzanne tells the story of the man and his songbook, shedding light on one of America’s most notable but unrecognised lyricists.

The second half includes a selection of dirty blues and jazz from the Roaring 20s and 30s.
