“Our record of the week” – Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Marconi (BBC Radio 2)
“I put it on and thought this is the stuff!” – Phil Jupitus (BBC Radio 4 and BBC 6 Music)
“The band I always wanted to be in...” Jamie T
Look through the lens of TOM MANSI & THE ICEBREAKERS and what will you see? A passion for the blues and raw rock ’n’ roll manifested in a band who have been playing together for the last 26 years.
The three-piece have performed at many of the best venues and festivals across the UK and Europe, including Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, The Big Chill, The Scala and the Hammersmith Palais, and have shared the stage with Son of Dave, Imelda May, Florence & The Machine, The Sadies, Fat Freddie’s Drop and countless more across their career to date. As a double bassist Tom has worked with many different artists, touring with 60’s folk singer Donovan, recording for British DJ duo ColdCut, preforming alongside Dr Hook at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul, and playing nightly in a surreal lecture tour with legendary film maker David Lynch.
Together the three piece forge a unique sound, channeling in equal measure the rock'n'roll spirit of Sam Phillips' Sun Studios, the electric blues of Howlin’ Wolf, the bass-heavy jazz attitude of Charles Mingus, the noir themes of Tom Waits, and the electric energy of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Above all else, the super tight sound of the rock'n'roll, rocking blues, rhythm & blues and beyond that Tom Mansi & The Icebreakers bring lights up the room like an arclight- a musical experience not to be forgotten
The band have had a BBC record of the week and their own full live appearance on Mark Lamarr's BBC Radio programme “God’s Jukebox”, which was included in the best of show for that year. They have just released their fourth album ‘Eyeball’ to critical acclaim.
Press for ‘Eyeball’ :
‘A wild sonic landscape, brimming with wandering spirit’ Blues In Britain
'The Icebreakers latest release is permeated with slick, sublime bluesy grooves’ Vive La Rock
‘Fist-tight energy conjures serious groove…the run-time of this album will be spent jutting your head like a pigeon’. Classic Rock Magazine
