Trebuchet Talks: 1st November

Rock, Evil, Sex and Death in 60s California

Trebuchet Magazine in discussion: Musician, Director and Writer Stephen ‘Snips’ Parsons

CALIFORNIA DEVILS

They came for the light and stayed when it got dark.

It got very dark

Under the California sun arechildren of the moon; strange drifters on dark tides and Servants of the Death Ray

Bobby BeauSoleil, John Phillips,The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Charles Manson, Heidi Fleiss, Anton Le Vey, Phillip K Dick, Jack Parsons, Trent Reznor, Kenneth Anger, Marjorie Cameron, Jim Morrison and L. Ron Hubbard are among those who rode the wild surf to shadowy destinations.

Steven W Parsons explores life/death on the fault line in conversation with Kailas Elmer.

Parsons has written over 80 articles for Trebuchet Magazine, is a founder member of 70’s cult rock band Sharks, survived three years working with demon drummer Ginger Baker and composed scores for a number of bad Hollywood movies. He lived and worked in Los Angeles during the nineties and escaped with his hair intact.

In order to create ‘the rock documentary to end all rock documentaries’ he has, at the age of 66, reformed Sharksalong with Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook (61) and founder member Chris Spedding (73). Their surreal journey is now being edited into a feature length film entitled One Last Thrill. Surprisingly the musical side of the revival has been successful – their 2017 release Killers of The Deep is one of Classic Rock’s top 50 albums of the year so far. Record Collector described their 2016 Borderline show as ‘the best gig of the year’ and their most recent performance at the Lexington in September 2017 was described by Uber Rock as ‘the best gig of the year’
