Vic Godard and Bitter Springs
Support from Helen McCookerybook

Vic Godard needs little introduction. He formed his band Subway Sect after encouragement from Punk godfather Malcolm McLaren in 1976.
After the punk years faded away he formed a swing band in the 80’s and later on worked with 80’s indie god Edwyn Collins and Sex pistols drummer Paul Cook. He even ventured into hip hop in later years too.

His band tonight are Bitter Springs, they were formed by Simon Rivers and Daniel Ashkenazy as Last Party in 1978; they had cult success of there own after recording sessions for John Peel in the 1980s, before their name change and the release of the EP featuring the song the Addison brothers. Vic later joined them on backing vocals.

Since then they have collaborated on several projects.

Supporting we have another old John Peel favourite, Helen McCookerybook. She was bass player/singer with The Chefs and guitarist/singer with Helen and the Horns in the 1980s, both of which were appeared on John Peel late night slot.

She has just completed a new solo album, here’s a link:
