As seen recently in Britains Got Talent, Janice Connolly is a British actress, comedian and artistic director. She runs the Birmingham-based group Women and Theatre, and performs stand-up comedy as her character "Mrs Barbara Nice"

International fun smuggler and mother of five dealing in the naturally occurring comedic highs of daily life. A supremely funny character comedian who tours the country on behalf of the opinionated suburban housewives of Stockport.

Mrs Barbara Nice invites you to forget your troubles, be happy and join everyone’s favourite housewife in celebrating the here and now and making our own fun in austerity Britain. She is worried that we are living in a world of ever diminishing friendliness where we keep ourselves to ourselves, heads down afraid to catch anyone`s eye. She wants us to stand proud, be open and look the world right in the eye - or we won`t feel the benefit!

Bethany Black has been a professional stand-up comedian since 2004. Her debut show BETH BECOMES HER detailed the story of her being transgender, chronicling everything from her coming out through her transition and eventually falling in love. It was nominated for Best Debut at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2008, eventually losing out to Sarah Millican.

Over the course of her career she has performed alongside some of the biggest names in Comedy, including Allan Carr, Sarah Millican, Tim Minchin and Rhys Darby. In late 2017/early 2018 Beth filmed the role of Pocahantas for NO OFFENCE.

In 2015 she was cast as Helen in Russell T Davies multi channel shows CUCUMBER, BANANA and TOFU where she was the first trans actress to play a leading role. In late 2015, Beth played 474 in DOCTOR WHO.

Beth performed her show (EXTRA)ORDINARY at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival. "Her journey to Channel Four, ‘Doctor Who’ and steadily rising star status makes for hilarious if sometimes incredulous listening.

Livewire, Annette Fagon is a loud and engaging comic. Annette’s stage presence takes hold of an audience and makes it sit up. With a character which has been crafted to perfection and a personality that will not be forgotten in a hurry, Annette is destined for stardom.

“With this sort of retro observational comedy, she’s just like Peter Kay would be – well, if he were female, black and from Leicester” CHORTLE

    The Women in Comedy Festival

    Comedy

Described as one of ‘the UK's best comedy festivals’ by the Skinny, Greater Manchester’s Women In Comedy Festival is Europes only comedy festival dedicated to gender equality.

A ‘brilliant, brilliant festival’, full to the brim with female comedic talent. ‘Get it booked, get on down’ is the recommendation from City Life.

The Women In Comedy Festival, produced by Dulcet Sounds, takes place annually in Greater Manchester, UK during October.

‘Set up as a reaction to the sidelining of women comics by club owners back in the day, Manchester’s homegrown Women In Comedy Festival (set up by Hazel O’Keefe) has found its feet in a very short space of time - attracting the likes of actress Maxine Peake as a patron, joining Jo Enright and Isy Suttie.’ M.E.N

Building on the success of Laughing Cows Comedy Night, the Festival launched in 2013 as a volunteer-led festival presenting both established and up and coming talent across the spectrum of stand up comedy, comedy theatre, improv performing arts, film, spoken work, comedy writing and visual arts.

The fifth annual 2017 Women In Comedy Festival will take place from Thursday 19th until Sunday 29th October 2017

Actor Maxine Peake joined the team of festival patrons last year. “I’m proud to be supporting the UK Women in Comedy Festival as a patron. A festival filled with laughter combined with feminist principles taking place in the North … what’s not to support!”

The festival has grown steadily over the years since the first event in 2013 and encompasses solo shows, open mic events, a comedy writing competition showcases, galas, symposiums, networking events, training, panels, debates and workshops. The Women In Comedy Festival also offers training and mentorship opportunities with industry professionals and other leading creative organisations.

‘It’s a very positive event, attracting massive headline acts.’ (Manchester Evening News)

    Barbara Nice

    Comedy

'Barbara Nice - ordinary housewife extraodinaire - has given up the domestic bliss of Tupperware and Poundstretcher shops for the unpredictability of the comedy circuit (her husband thinks she's at the bingo). No audience is too rowdy for her to handle - she's already raised five teenagers. She believes in bargains, Take a Break magazine, getting the most from life. Oh and Stage-diving! This well observed comedy character is so likeable that she draws even the most cynical of audiences and takes them along for a ride. 'A hybrid between Victoria Wood and Mrs Merton' - The Times.
