On Saturday, May 30th, we welcome the return of Black Codes Experiments, the label and event series founded by Cristian Varela and Ian Axide. Showcasing the dark and unsung end of the techno genre, the pair have curated an exceptional lineup of label representatives to showcase the sound that Black Codes represents.

Leading the charge will be one-half of British Murder Boys, Regis. An institution of British techno, Karl O’Connor has been refining and developing his sound since the nineties, having operated his own label, Downwards Records, since 1995.

Joining him will be Shifted, a regular of Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver imprint and a fellow mainstay of the UK’s techno scene, as well as the two founders of the Black Codes Experiments label: Cristian Varela and Ian Axide.

Both advocates of hard-edged, industrial techno, the pair have maintained the quality of Black Codes’ releases since its 2003 inception, championing an uncompromising sound that has become the signature of the label for seventeen years. In recent times the label’s residency on Bloop, one of London’s leading radio stations, has brought the Black Codes sound to the forefront of today’s electronic music scene, a testament to the pairs inherent passion for their craft.

Completing the billing are Takaaki Itoh, who will be flying the flag for Japan’s ever-flourishing output, and Arnaud Le Texier, label head of Children of Tomorrow.

Our Black Studio will be the incubator for the evening’s antics. The space accentuates the natural tendencies of the techno genre, with it’s stripped back facade and intimately low ceiling, creating the ideal backdrop to delve into the unsung, uncompromising end of the Black Codes Experiments label.
