Launching in January, Classic Album Sundays and Jazz Café are set to co-host a series of discussions and live performances exploring key records and their influence on contemporary music.

Throughout January, February, March and April, four respected London musicians will perform their own interpretation of a chosen album. Each performance will be introduced by an interview with Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy of Classic Album Sundays who will examine how the records have impacted the artist’s own work and its influence on contemporary music in general.

On Monday 8th January, drummer Tom Skinner of Sons Of Kemet, Owiny Sigoma Band and solo project Hello Skinny performs Tony Williams’ Life Time, an album that was recorded alongside Herbie Hancock and Bobby Hutcherson. One of the all time greats of jazz drumming, Tony Williams' debut album caused a huge splash on its release on Blue Note. Its avant garde style signalling the arrival of a new kid on the block, who would go on to rival the likes of Art Blakey and Max Roach over the course of his long career.
