London’s finest Cuban and Afrobeat collectives combine as Cubafrobeat join us for an evening celebration of two of the world’s most timeless sounds.

As the title foretells, this is a blend of Cuban dance music and Nigerian / Yoruban Afrobeat — a fusion rendered seamless by the synergies existing between Afro-Cuban and Yoruban music, language and mythology.

Through the vast movement of people and culture from Africa to the Caribbean, the rhythms of Africa were transposed onto a new culture. This relationship was symbiotic, with Cuban music becoming a la mode in Western African. This started a whole new musical relationship that has spanned decades, and from Buena Vista Social Club to Orchestra Baobab, has resulted in some of the most captivating music in the world.

Cubafrobeat is a groove train, travelling between Havana, Cuba and Lagos, Nigeria – fuelled by a London sensibility and utilising the talents of UK’s top Cuban and Afrobeat specialists – “An inspired musical conversation between two sides of the Atlantic”.
