FCQ are a modern, forward-thinking jazz quartet, performing their own groundbreaking compositions, led by clarinettist/writer and Guildhall graduate Aidan Pearson, with Guildhall alumni Jonny Wickham on bass, Arthur Newell on drums and Matt Hurley on guitar. Violinist Johanna Bernard is a also guest feature on some of their songs.
They have been honing their sound and developing rapidly since their debut performance in 2017. Their music melodic, upbeat and colorful with influences from an array of different genres and electronic sounds. They cite Sons of Kemet and Oregon as their main influences, with elements of classical, blues and folk music evident in their style.
During the summer of 2018 they released their first EP 'Eleven yesterdays Ago' reviewed favorably by magazines and music blogs alike. Jazz blogger Ian Mann from Jazzmann.com wrote: ‘Floating Circles Quartet have already created their own distinctive sound.....I found the group’s music absorbing and often beautiful.’ http://www.thejazzmann.com/reviews/review/eleven-yesterdays-ago/
Sussex jazz magazine praised the 'fine guitar work' and 'excellent drumming' on the EP
