    GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH

GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH, the fresh alternative 4-piece band from Glasgow, kicked off a fuss with the
release of their debut single “Britpop Genius”. Having been featured on BBC Introducing and Amazing
Radio (both UK and US), the quartet continue to develop the energetic, melodic chaos that is GSF since
their establishment in late 2022. The band have already created a sound that Shereen Cutkelvin (BBC
Presenter) labelled as “the comeback of indie sleaze”. Recently, the band have amassed over 50
thousand streams from an audience spanning across every continent and were nominees for the 2023
SAMA Awards in Glasgow for best newcomer. The band were also ranked number 4 “Bands to watch
for 2024” by Jim Gellatly on his Amazing Radio show as well as “Ones to watch for 2025” by Olaf Furniss
and Derik MacKinnon from The Scotsman.
With songs encapsulating lyrical themes of complicated love, angst and social frustration,
GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH are becoming a band of relevance. The music indulges in the reality of being
young and the chaos that this brings. With infectiously uplifting tracks, there is a strength and drive
from drummer, Sam Lomas, paired with top-drawer grooves from bassist, Joe McLaren. Strikingly
memorable riffs from guitarist Gio Matvichuk are complimented with his colourful lead lines and the
vigorous vocals from Joshua Campbell convey genuine story and thoughts.
Despite the initiation in late 2022, GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH have been on the scene as various other
projects previously. The partnership of drummer Sam Lomas and vocalist Joshua Campbell began at
music college in early 2021 and, with a set of acoustic demo tracks named “the.demo.tapes”, a distinct
sound was beginning to form. For roughly a year the pair formed bands with different instrumentalists
but it wasn’t until both Gio Matvichuk (lead guitarist) and Joe McLaren(bass guitarist) joined that
    GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH truly discovered their potential.
From playing short gigs on the edges of rugby pitches to performing sold out shows at venues such as
Oran Mor, King Tut’s and Nice ‘n’ Sleazy; the past two years have allowed each of the guys to begin to
find their feet as both musicians and writers. GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH have amassed a strong dedicated
following due to the success of big performances such as the support slot for LA band, Sir Chloe, at a
sold-out Oran Mor and the support slot for Dundonian soloist, Joshua Grant, at a sold-out King Tut’s.
It is certainly true that the band perform large-scale shows and their ambitions are likewise for the
future, this was demonstrated in their performance supporting Australian group Ocean Alley at a sold
out SWG3 Warehouse. They also endeavour to make the most of their ties with students at the Royal
Conservatoire of Scotland. The group have recently played their first headliner at a packed-out Sneaky
Pete’s in Edinburgh as well as travelling to Dundee for a show and performing in Tenement Trail 2023
in Glasgow to a sold-out Van Winkle’s crowd. The sold-out theme continues into 2024 with the band’s
first King Tut’s headliner with eager fans racing to buy the final four tickets at the door.
GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH now look forward to continuing a run within the UK festival circuit, initiated with
Songs From Northern Britain Festival in Stockon-on-tees and Sunshine Festival in Worcester. This has
exposed the band to those involved in BBC Radio Scotland and BBC 6 Music which holds promising
opportunities. The band will now go on to perform in Crowded Flat and SMC’s HouseGuest Festival
    2025.

The band released their three debut singles with the aid of successful Scottish producer, Kevin Burleigh,
who has worked with the likes of Glasvegas, Paolo Nutini, Simple Minds etc. With the release of the
first singles, GIRLS.SPEAK.FRENCH are showing their genre fluidity. They now progress to release their
new singles working with producers such as Jamie Holmes.
