About

A group led by “quietly rebellious” [Songlines Magazine] guitarist James Kitchman featuring a cast of London’s finest improvisers: pianist Bruno Heinen; bassist Tom McCredie; and drummer Shane Forbes. They play James’ compositions which draw influence from the variety of musical worlds he traverses; from jazz, to chamber music, to contemporary folk, to ambient electronica. Improvisation and empathy are at the core of the group’s spirit; conjuring a sound that is at once stark and refreshing. His debut recording ‘First Quartet’ was released in 2022 via the Ubuntu Music label and has received airplay from BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM, and Worldwide FM, a rapturous reception from the jazz press, and over 3 million streams across digital platforms.

‘The range and quality of this debut would be remarkable even if it hadn’t all been laid down in a single day but that detail confirms James Kitchman’s aplomb as a composer and bandleader, not least in his choice of travelling companions’ Jazzwise Magazine, **** Editor’s choice
