THE BASEMENT BAR

It was rock icon Iggy Pop who gave Jo her first break when he read the 4 star review of her album Weathering The Storm in the Guardian, and played her on his BBC Radio 6 music show stating that she was a ‘very fine jazz singer’.

Jo is an Award winning recording artist and songwriter, who was chosen to support Gregory Porter’s 13 date UK Tour 2025, including 4 nights at Londons Royal Albert Hall.

Albums include Weathering The Storm, The Heart Wants, (Jo Harrop/Hannah V ft Christian McBride), When Winter Turns To Spring, (Jo Harrop/Paul Edis) , The Path Of A Tear (Produced by Larry Klein), and forthcoming album, made with producer Chris Seefried (Lady Blackbird).

She received a raft of rapturous reviews for her first four released albums on Lateralize records, Weathering The Storm, The Heart Wants, which hit number 13 in the US Jazz album charts and was also play listed on US radio station Watercolors XM. When Winter Turns To Spring won album of the year in 2023 at The Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and The Path Of A Tear which was recorded at The Village Studios in Los Angeles with producer, Larry Klein, received multiple four and five star reviews across the world.

Effortlessly blurring the lines between jazz and blues, it is achingly beautiful music, that is so shot through with pathos and pain, it could melt the hardest of hearts. The Guardian dubbed her work, ‘a little gem: simple, modest and perfect,’ whilst BBC 6 Music’s Iggy Pop fell in love with her voice, calling her “a very fine jazz singer.”

Warm, smoky and capable of the most delicate dynamics, Jo Harrop’s mellifluous voice reveals a rarely found intimacy.

Jo was nominated twice for vocalist of the year category and Iggy Pop described Jo’s singing as, ’delicious, I believe her’
DJ Jo Whiley has continuously played Jo's songs on her BBC Radio 2 show, calling her one of her favourite voices, 'divine' and 'amazing'. While grammy winning producer Larry Klein describes Jo having a 'rare and honest voice'. Jo recently recorded a stunning album of original songs with him, featuring the worlds greatest musicians.

Originally from the north east of England, residing in London, Jo has graced some of the worlds most prestigious jazz venues worldwide, including The Royal Abert Hall, Newcastle City Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Manchester Arena, Dizzys at Lincoln Center New York, SF Jazz club, San Francisco, Ronnie Scotts, The 606 Club, Pizza Express Live, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Tversted Jazz Festival in Denmark and The Glasshouse, in her homelands of Gateshead, to name a few.

Her influences are steeped in jazz, blues and soul, with flavours of Americana, folk and latin running throughout. A jazz singer and song stylist, known as having an intimate, velvet, smokey, bluesy tone, she is said to be able to 'melt even the chilliest of hearts'.
