To top off it’s 33rd season at the Vortex, the London Jazz Orchestra celebrates the 75th birthday of phenomenal pianist and composer Pete Saberton, whose unique writing and playing style helped define the sound of the band. Taking over from founding pianist John Taylor, and succeeded by current pianist-composer Alcyona Mick, “Sabbo" was the LJO’s pianist for 20 years until his death in 2012. He produced a string of totally original and delightful pieces, many which the LJO recorded on The Saberton Album. He was a huge inspiration to all those who had the pleasure of playing with him and the performance includes tribute pieces by saxophonist and long-time colleague Pete Hurt and lead trumpet Noel Langley.
