There are not many musicians in the world that can say that by the time they were 16 years old, they had either recorded, performed with Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Supremes and Marvin Gaye, just to name a few.
Michael Henderson, a native Detroiter and self-taught musician, was considered a “music prodigy and phenom,” when he learned to play bass guitar in 1963 at 12 years old. Months later, he was playing with the famed “Detroit Emeralds,” and soon was doing Motown recording sessions.
He then went on to play with none other than the great Miles Davis, debuting on the classic Jack Johnson.
With such a rich musical history Henderson will perform a headline show in two parts, tracing his long career through the r&b years all the way to the jazz days and back again. We can’t wait.
Opening the show will be London based soul singer Nia Ekanem.
