Two stars of the Los Angeles label Stones Throw come together for a massive double bill at The Jazz Cafe this November.

MNDSGN is the revered beat producer and artist at the centre of a huge network of West Coast creatives exploring the boundaries between hip-hop, jazz, electronica and a wealth of other genres.

His 2021 album 'Rare Pleasure' was released this Spring to huge critical acclaim. The work represents an appreciation of sharing life, inward reflection, and the gift of joyful catharsis. Threaded throughout the album is a 'Rare Pleasure' theme inspired by soundtrack music, specifically 70s/80s library and theme music, whose repetitions and variations, MNDSGN says, "echo the recurring motifs we experience in life, sometimes being revisited by the same lessons in different shapes and forms."

Taken as a whole, his body of work chronicles the evolution of self, asking throughout: how can we live in a way that is true to ourselves? How can we find beauty in the everyday and unfamiliar?

Jamael Dean & Sharada Shashidahr play their debut UK show following their breakout album on Stones Throw, Primordial Waters, (29th October 2021).
Jamael Dean currently leads the music collective The Afronauts, has participated in the Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra, and has collaborated and performed with the likes of Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño. Dean’s passion for music was sparked when his grandfather, legendary drummer Donald Dean, began taking him to see live performances. He also fell in love with hip-hop, which has been an ongoing influence.
