OMG It's the Church

  • Oh My God! It's The Church

    Funk-Rock

There are live bands. There are cult bands. And then there is Oh My God! It’s The Church, a genre-defying musical revival that has quietly become one of the most electrifying live experiences in the UK.  This autumn, the congregation expands as the band announce The Original Sinners Tour, a run of UK and European dates that promises to transform the clubs and halls of unsuspecting towns into ecstatic, sweat-drenched celebrations of rhythm, redemption and righteous noise. It has long been said that Eve was the original sinner, but this band and their fervent followers known as The Congregation, are determined to steal that illustrious title for themselves.

Part rock show, part gospel revival, part psychedelic sermon, Oh My God! It’s The Church are not so much a band as a phenomenon. Fronted by the charismatic frontman The Rt Rev Michael Alabama Jackson and powered by his chaotic choir, blistering horns and a rhythm section capable of shaking foundations, their legendary performances fall somewhere between a gig, a comedic cult and a communal awakening. As any of their legions of dedicated disciples will tell you - this band truly has to be seen to be believed (pun intended). The group’s sound is a joyous collision of gospel fervour, funk grooves, soul power and rock’n’roll abandon, somewhere between the spiritual fire of a revival meeting and the swagger of a late-night funk revue. It’s this unpredictable, immersive energy that has built the band a devoted following and earned them a reputation as one of the most thrilling live acts in the country.
