    Palace Winter

    Alternative

Palace Winter, Australian-Danish duo Carl Coleman and Caspar Hesselager, have announced their fourth album, Confessions Of Mr Nowhere. With their unique brand of cinematic indie-pop at its core, Confessions Of Mr Nowhere breathes new energy into Palace Winter’s sound, exploring fresh flavours, a stripped back approach to songwriting, and new batch of influences including Steely Dan, JJ Cale, Delicate Steve, and Stevie Wonder. “In the Spring of 2022 we were pretty burned out from a crazy UK tour during Covid so we rented a little old winery cottage on the slopes of Mt. Etna on Sicily for a week” explains Coleman. “We were excited for a change of scenery and started writing demos immediately, matching up sketches and ideas with just an acoustic guitar, a simple little Yamaha synth, and a drum machine.”
“This simplicity guided the overall feel of the album and how we shaped each song” says Hesselager. “We wanted to preserve the minimal arrangements and organic feel throughout. A lot of our previous work had really filled the canvas, so we wanted to zoom in on something more airy, tongue-in-cheek and loose, while still playing to our melodic strengths.” Palace Winter’s previous albums have seen wide critical acclaim and support from several key UK outlets including BBC Radio 6 Music, where they’ve achieved multiple playlists and live sessions, alongside press support from The Guardian, Mojo, Uncut, NME, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine and many more. The band have also extensively toured the UK, selling out headline shows in London, Manchester and Bristol, supported Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, and appeared at festivals including Green Man, Citadel, Latitude and Guy Garvey’s Meltdown. The album is written and produced by Caspar Hesselager (Keys, Backing Vocals) and Carl Coleman (Vocals, Guitars, Lyrics), and is mixed and mastered by Caspar Hesselager. Palace Winter plays live as a four-piece. The New York Times (US): ”their music is a darkly intoxicating potion” The Guardian (UK): “fast, urgent, plangent, with murmuring vocals and a hazy shade of wintry melancholia” Johnny Marr (The Smiths): ”both melodic and moody, which to me says a lot about life: beauty and sadness.” Lauren Laverne, BBC 6 Music (UK) “A band to listen out for”
