We present two nights with one of the most celebrated names in funk and legendary lead singer of the band Slave: Steve Arrington.
Having scored major hits featuring his innovative lead vocals on 80s Slave classics like “Watching You”, “Just A Touch of Love”, and “Snaphot”, Arrington broke out with solo hits “Weak at the Knees”, “Way Out”, “Nobody Can Be You”, “Dancin’ In The Key Of Life” and the top ten single “Feel So Real”.
One of the pioneers of the West Coast g-funk sound alongside Zapp and George Clinton, his songs have been sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey and N.W.A. Releases with Dâm Funk, Snoop Dogg, and Kool Moe Dee marked his return after a period away from music, with Arrington recently signing for Stones Throw Records and beginning work on new sounds with Anderson Paak producer, Knowledge, plus Kiefer, Jerry Paper (Tyler The Creator) and Gifted & Blessed.
His return to the scene highlights the influence his unique style has had on continuous generations of music and musicians, from 90s hip hop through to the emerging underground funk scene inspired by his early days with Slave. The name Steve Arrington is becoming a staple to a whole new generation of funk fans, bridging the gap between old and new.
He’ll be backed by Echoes Of, the young French group doing a monthly residency at Paris’ famous New Morning jazz club and a hot bi-monthly residency at CLF Art Café in Peckham, for South London’s “Soul Train” Party.
