The Gasoline Gypsies and Hans Chew Bands
-
Four part vocal harmonies, dual lead guitars, and a tasty rhythm section built on drums, bass, and keys make up the music of Port Huron Michigan’s The Gasoline Gypsies. But, the real magic in their music is born of a driving work ethic that’s earned them a reputation of being one of the tightest bands on the Mitten Music scene. Drawing influence from the roots of rock, folk, bluegrass, and country The Gasoline Gypsies craft a unique style of original Americana Rock. Often evoking themes of nature while engaging mature poetry, they design music to serve songs and build sets that invite listeners to take journeys through self awareness, while breathing in the rhythms of the world around us, and enthusiastically celebrating the joys of life. They are a band with range. The Gasoline Gypsies can plug in and rock large venues, or unplugged they can mesmerize small listening rooms. The eight time Detroit Music Award winners, are feverishly followed by their fan tribe, The Vagabundos. Find them at a show, and you’ll likely experience an alchemy that draws together the music, the people, and the family that is The Gasoline Gypsies experience.

Hans Chew established himself as an acclaimed songwriter and musician with 2010’s debut
Tennessee & Other Stories..., receiving Top 25 Albums of the Year from Uncut magazine and
4-stars from Rolling Stone. He has collaborated with artists such as Jack Rose, Steve Gunn,
Hiss Golden Messenger, Chris Forsyth, D. Charles Speer, Endless Boogie, and Garcia Peoples.
Other releases include 2014’s Life & Love, 2016’s Unknown Sire, and 2017’s Open Sea, with
his fifth album Land Of Dreams slated for release in September, 2025.
A native Tennessean, Chew’s music career began in New York City. Primarily a pianist, he is a
multi-instrumentalist whose style has been described in wide fashion, with comparisons to
artists like Leon Russell, Nick Cave, James Booker, Led Zeppelin, Little Feat, and Nirvana. “My
grandfather sang harmony on Sundays in a little country church quartet and in the evening I’d
hear him pickin’ and grinnin’ that 'high lonesome sound' out on the carport with his brothers. My
mother turned me on to Hendrix and the Stones, but my father listened only to classical music: I
knew Beethoven’s Fifth before Led Zeppelin’s fourth.”
As a dynamic live performer, Apple Music’s Editor sums him thus: “Hans Chew cranks up the
tempo and the manic rock ’n’ roll performance until it feels like you’ve landed in the early ‘70s,
when Derek & The Dominos were piecing together Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and
The Rolling Stones were waiting around Nellcote to record the bits and pieces of Exile on Main St.”
