Born into one of Tanzania’s most revered musical dynasties, The Zawose Queens carry spirit and fire in every note.

The most celebrated figure in this lineage is the late Dr Hukwe Zawose — Pendo’s father and Leah’s grandfather — who brought Gogo music to global stages.

Rooted in the traditions of the Wagogo people, Pendo and Leah channel ancestral energy into a sound that flows effortlessly between the organic and the electronic — weaving polyrhythmic ceremony with subtle beats and modern textures, all lifted by powerful harmonies.

Sung in their native kigogo, their lyrics honour a passion for music, the wonders of life and deep pride in their East African roots.

Maisha, their debut album, marks the first time women from this legendary family step forward as lead vocalists and performers.
