“Vortex Lates” is a series of events taking place in our downstairs bar on Friday or Saturday. A new late-night jazz hang for Dalston where you can grab a drink and listen to some of the best improvised musicians from around the city. For only £6, check out exciting music from a revolving line-up of innovative performers digging into standards and new music alongside DJs spinning vinyl until the early hours. A relaxed atmosphere with special drinks offers each night and an opportunity to be part of the extended Vortex community.

SULA is a new trio project made up of drummer Miranda Radford, bassist Aleks Dimitrova and pianist Kezia Abuoma. All currently studying jazz at Trinity Laban, these exciting young musicians have come up through hailed organisations like Tomorrow’s Warriors, mentored by the likes of Nikki Yeoh and Deschanel Gordon and Will Cleasby. As both bandleaders and sidewomen, they have performed at venues such as The Vortex, The Jazz Cafe and Dizzy’s Club in New York. Taking inspiration from the likes of Kris Davis, Wayne Shorter and Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, these three unique voices have come together to play both their original compositions and other music that is inspired by the energetic sounds of modern-day jazz.
